Alentejo offers 20 special wine experiences between August and October – Portugal Resident


Harvest season is one of the most exciting times to visit the Alentejo, when vineyards across Portugal’s largest wine region come alive with the annual grape harvest.

Between August and October, more than 20 wineries and wine tourism estates are opening their doors to visitors, offering everything from picking grapes alongside vineyard workers and traditional grape stomping to wine tastings, gourmet lunches, blending workshops and luxury vineyard escapes.

To help wine lovers make the most of the season, the Alentejo Regional Wine Commission (CVRA) has brought together a wide range of harvest experiences stretching from north to south of the region. Whether you’re looking for an affordable afternoon tasting or an indulgent multi-day stay surrounded by vineyards, there’s something to suit every taste – and every budget.

  • Rota dos Vinhos do Alentejo – Évora

A great starting point for anyone planning a wine holiday. The Wine Route represents more than 60 wineries and can help visitors create personalised itineraries while offering guided tastings.

  • Adega José de Sousa – Reguengos de Monsaraz

Available: August 15 to September 15

Visit both the modern winery and the historic clay-pot cellar before joining the grape harvest. The experience includes a tasting of three wines, regional delicacies and an optional Alentejo lunch. Visitors also receive a commemorative harvest T-shirt and hat.

  • Herdade de São Miguel (Casa Relvas) – Évora

Walk through the vineyards before harvesting grapes by hand, tasting fermenting grape must and taking part in the traditional grape stomping. The visit concludes with a tasting of Casa Relvas wines and olive oils accompanied by regional snacks, with an optional Alentejo lunch.
